Together against HIV

"Names" - this is the name of the international movement, whose goal is not to let people forget about the people that the epidemic has taken from us. In memory of them "Names" create a memorial "QUILT". In English-speaking countries, the word quilt is called a patchwork quilt.

The HIV epidemic has given new life to this old tradition. QUILT began to refer to the sections of the combined canvasses sewn together in memory of those who were blown away from us by this disease. The international movement "Names" originated in 1987 in the US, when Cleve Jones sewed a canvas in memory of a friend who died of AIDS, expressing not only his love and sorrow, but also the non-action of the American government. This initiative was supported, and soon the first sewing center was created in San Francisco, where people came to sew the memorable canvases. The activists of the center connected the QUILTS to large squares - sections intended for public displays. Soon such centers began to be created in many cities and countries. Thus, the International AIDS Memorial "QUILT" arose.

Looking at the grief of people expressed in the QUILT, many for the first time understand that HIV infection has no boundaries, does not distinguish people by age, nationality, and therefore, can touch everyone.
Today, the international "QUILT" has more than 50 thousand memorable panels. QUILT - a powerful educational tool that allows you to change attitudes towards HIV-positive people. Expositions often allow visitors to take the first step in the fight against AIDS.

In Russia, the International Movement "Names" was supported in 1993, when activists sewed the first memorable canvases to the Russians.
The tradition was supported by students of the natural-geographical faculty of the Ya. K.D. Ushinsky, who created a patchwork quilt, as a reminder that we live in a world where there is HIV infection. This problem concerns 40 million people on the globe, 820,000 people in Russia and 3531 people in Yaroslavl.

HIV is out of the traditional at-risk groups, the infection spreads in law-abiding youth circles. Remember this, take care of your life and health, extend a helping hand to those who suffered from a terrible epidemic - HIV is not transmitted through friendship!
