New Steine
Built in the late 1780s it is the only development from that period between the Old Steine and Sussex Square that incorporated an open space due to the high prices developers were paying for land to build on. The northern end of the square was originally an old chalk pit which may have been another reason. The sculpture is 'Tay' by Romany Mark Bruce which was unveiled in 2009 and is a memorial to AIDS victims in Brighton. Photo © Simon Carey geograph
