Museum für Sepulkralkultur Dutch AIDS Memorial Quilt - block 5 since 14 November 2018
10 names
In the course of musealization of the Dutch AIDS Memorial Quilt, the Museum für Sepulkralkultur (Museum for Sepulchral Culture) in Kassel acquired a quilt block with some interesting peculiarities: The panel for 'All African Victims' was made by Paul Zeebregts, the brother of Gart van Gennip (formerly Gart Zeebregts), a Dutch volunteer and European Councillor of the NAMES Project in San Francisco who in 1988 travelled across Europe to promote the idea of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, among others together with Cleve Jones to the International AIDS Conference in Stockholm. The panel was one of three Gart handed to one of the predecessors of the Hiv Vereniging Nederland (Hiv Association Netherlands) who then set up a NAMES Project. Martin Kruijsen was one of the co-founders of this predecessor group, Belangenvereniging Mensen met Aids (Interest Group People with AIDS). The panel for the American Kenneth Baldwin was made by his Dutch friend.
This quilt block belongs to the five Dutch blocks displayed during the International AIDS Conference 1992 in Amsterdam.
Block 5 has been sent to the Museum for Sepulchral Culture on 14 November 2018.
