In Yekaterinburg, a patchwork blanket was created in memory of the AIDS victims

In the Historical Square, Yekaterinburgians deployed a Quilt (patchwork blanket) in memory of friends and relatives who died of AIDS. The city will join the international "Names" movement, which aims to keep people from losing their lives because of this dangerous disease. This was reported to URA.RU journalists at the Sverdlovsk Regional AIDS and Aids Center. Memorial Day for AIDS victims is held every third Sunday of May. By that date, quilts are created in many countries, but in Russia this tradition is not widespread. In Yekaterinburg, the action will be held for the first time. The Quilt began to evolve a month ago: people bring parts of the future canvas with the names of friends and relatives to the offices of volunteer organizations.

"Every year on this day, HIV-positive people light candles, recall friends and relatives. They gather where nobody see them and where nobody knows about their HIV status. This year we decided to get out of the shadows: we come out as HIV-positive." said Vera Kovalenko, head of the "New Life" Foundation.
As part of the action, everyone will be able to combine their panels into a single canvas. Estimated number of participants - up to 300 people.
