In 1998 Tampa City Council officials designated a 1/2 acre lot on Bayshore Blvd for the AIDS Memorial Park. The developer of One Bayshore Condominiums, Crescent Resources, did the work and will upkeep the park.
AIDS Memorial Park is located on the southwest corner of Bayshore Boulevard and Hyde Park Place. The park serves as a memorial to those lost to AIDS, and a place of solace for those living with or affected by the disease. Conceived and promoted by gay activits, the park was dedicated in the summer of 2005. A circular plaza provides views of the water, and a garden area for contemplation features multi-colored concrete pavers laid out in a pattern similar to the well-traveled Aids Quilt.
